Welcome to our new school year! The digital learning coaches along with our tech support team have been busy getting everything ready for your children. We have distributed 260 student laptops and almost 200 student iPads. The students have spent the first couple of weeks learning how to be respectful, responsible, and safe users of technology. This is a theme we will continue throughout the year.
We started in each grade with introductory lessons. Our focus was to build understanding and develop strategies so that we can effectively and efficiently use our laptops and iPads as tools for learning. We asked the following questions:
In these introductory lessons, students worked in both in groups and independently to explore and make decisions based around these questions. Each age level approached these concepts in different age-appropriate ways. Students brainstormed ways they have already used laptops and what skills they would need to have to be efficient and fluent users of technology. The drew pictures and digitally brainstormed their thoughts and ideas around our responsible use policy, and they set up folders and decided on ways to stay organized in Google Drive and locally on their laptops. These are lifelong skills that we will continue to work on with our students all year.
